ENC Analysis | Between Energy and Connectivity: The Strategic Potential of the EU-Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan Tripartite Cooperation

The European Neighbourhood Council (ENC) released its new analysis titled “Between Energy and Connectivity: The Strategic Potential of the EU-Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan Tripartite Cooperation”.

The analysis is authored by Fabio Indeo, ENC Academic Council Member and PhD, Research Fellow on geopolitics, connectivity and energy security at the University of Siena and the Italian Institute for Asia.

The paper examines the potential of trilateral cooperation between the European Union, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan to strengthen energy diversification and Euro-Asian connectivity in the context of the Russia-Ukraine war. It explores the strategic importance of the Middle Corridor, the Southern Gas Corridor and the Green Energy Corridor in developing alternative transport and energy routes between the Caspian region and European markets. The analysis highlights how closer cooperation can advance the EU’s energy security and green transition objectives while supporting Kazakhstan’s and Azerbaijan’s efforts to diversify their exports and strengthen their role as strategic transit hubs.
