ENC Podcast: Perspectives ahead of the EU-Turkey high level dialogue meetings

As December will be a high point of the year in Turkey-EU relations, with Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek meeting with Jyrki Katainen, the European Commission’s Vice President for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness. ENC invited Ambassador Christian Berger, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Turkey and Ambassador Selim Yenel, Undersecretary of the Turkish Ministry for EU Affairs and previous Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Turkey to the European Union, to review the events of 2017 in the EU-Turkish relations, from the constitutional referendum to the Dutch and German elections.

Moderated by Samuel Doveri Vesterbye, Director of the European Neighbourhood Council, our distinguished guests discussed about the current state of the EU-Turkey relationship through different topics, including cooperation, Customs Union, cultural diplomacy and terrorism.

In order to discuss about the 5th Eastern Partnership Summit which is taking place this week in Brussels on 24 November 2017, ENC invited Ms. Larisa Patlis, senior lecturer at the International Relations, Political Science and Journalism department of the Free International  University of Moldova (ULIM), Dr. Aleksandra Seliverstova, researcher and lecturer at the Department of Political Science at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and Dr. Giulia Prelz Oltramonti, researcher and lecturer in Political Science at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) to participate in a podcast discussion. The In-Depth discussion is part of ENC’s EaP Series of podcast meetings dedicated to developments in the Eastern Partnership area in the fields of Security, Foreign Policy, Economy, Democracy and Education. 

Moderated by ENC Head Researcher for Eastern Europe & Central Asia, Andreas Marazis, our panelists assessed the future prospects of the Eastern Partnership, the challenges on the way ahead to the upcoming Summit, the reform progress in Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, as well as the security concerns in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the frozen conflicts in the region.
