The in-depth discussion is dedicated to “The Future Of Economy & Entertainment” which is part of a series of podcasts included in the “Beyond Erasmus: Education, Exchanges and Employment opportunities for youth in the EU and Turkey” training programme. The project is supported by Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Turkey and aims at promoting student mobility beyond the Erasmus+ framework, youth exchanges, internships, training courses, networking, access to funding for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and free market entrepreneurship and Civil Society Organisations (CSO), among other things.

Some of the key points in the discussion are: How COVID-19 affected entertainment industry in regards to both production and consumption, what are the changes of approach towards many different sectors during the COVID-19 pandemic, comparing the readiness between socio-economic and institutional conditions and students. Also mentioned are the accelaration of modern trends in response to the pandemic, building resilience for future crises and the necessity for bridging between digital world and social sciences. Finally our participants provide tips for moving from the academic stage to the career paths concerning students.

The discussion was co-moderated by Gülçin Sinav, Program Director at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Turkey and Andreas Marazis, ENC Head of Research for Eastern Europe & Central Asia. This episode of In-Depth Podcast is dedicated to the recently published ENC Analysis by our Academic Council member Dr. Ebtisam Aly Hussein, Associate Professor of Political Science at Cairo University, and Middle Eastern Studies at Sun Yat-sen University.

In this discussion, Dr. Hussein focuses on how lack of integration by states towards immigrants can cause marginalized groups to form and provide an operational framework to terrorist attacks within EU member states and different approaches regarding security taken by the EU. She also mentions how the political instability caused by the 2011 Arab Spring created an environment for Islamic militancy to thrive, social inequality being used by Jihadist organizations to manipulate masses, and finally what can be done by the EU to prevent such trends.

ENC Analysis – One Decade After the 2011 Uprisings: Islamist Militancy in MENA as an EU Security Threat

The European Neighbourhood Council (ENC) released its new analysis entitled “One Decade After the 2011 Uprisings: Islamist Militancy in MENA as an EU Security Threat”.

The ENC Analysis is written by Dr. Ebtisam Hussein, Associate Professor of Political Science at Cairo University. She also holds the position of Associate Professor of Middle Eastern Studies at Sun Yat-sen University in China and that of ENC Academic Council member.

For many years, the EU has been subjected to several organized terrorist acts by diverse political motives. Due to its possible detrimental influence on the European Union, it is critical to evaluate the future of Islamist militancy in the MENA region. In this publication, Dr. Hussein analyses the MENA militancy after the 2011 upheavals and set some questions about the causes of the violence and what might be done.

This ENC In-Depth podcast is the third in a series of discussions which are part of the Beyond Erasmus Programme. The project is supported by Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Turkey and aims at promoting student mobility beyond the Erasmus+ framework, youth exchanges, internships, training courses, networking, access to funding for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and free market entrepreneurship and Civil Society Organizations (SCO), among other things.

The third discussion sheds light on the code of conduct for fundraising opportunities and examines existing EU – Turkey programmes such as COSME or Creative Europe and analyzes a number of key fundraising sources such as Government entities, major individual donors and annual campaigns among others.

The discussion was co-moderated by Gülçin Sinav, Program Director at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Turkey and Andreas Marazis, ENC Head of Research for Eastern Europe & Central Asia.
